Warm and wet weather set to rain on Santa's Auckland parade

Farmers Santa Parade Auckland 2015

A warm but wet weekend might rain on Santa's parade in Auckland this weekend, as the recent cold snap which brought snow down south moves away from the country.

According to the latest MetService forecast, Auckland will have a high of 23 degrees on Saturday and Sunday.

The warmer weather will also be accompanied by rain however, with the chance for heavy rain on both days.

The annual Farmers Santa Parade is scheduled to take place in Auckland on Sunday drawing thousands to the city centre for a glimpse of St Nick.

A spokesperson for the parade told 1 NEWS a decision on whether to go ahead with the parade, if the forecast rain sets in, will be made between nine and 10am on the day, with the parade due to start at 1pm.

If the event is postponed an announcement will be made on radio stations NewsTalk ZB and The Hits, as well as on the Farmers Santa Parade website and Facebook pages .

The weather would have to be "very bad" for the event to be postponed the spokesperson said.

In the event of a postponement the parade will be rescheduled to the following Sunday, December 2.

An unseasonable cold snap brought temperatures down to the mid teens in the City of Sails this week and caused havoc down south, bringing snow and flooding to Otago.

Riverside Farm manager Adrian Winward isn’t letting yesterday's deluge get him down.

The MetService is also warning there is a moderate risk of thunderstorms for the eastern half of the lower North Island today.

Rain is forecast for most of the North Island this weekend and into the start of next week.
