The National Party leader discussed the new political reality in the aftermath of Friday’s terror attack.

Simon Bridges has vowed to work with the Government to tighten gun laws in the wake of the Christchurch terror attacks in which 50 people were killed and 50 more injured.

Speaking on TVNZ1's Breakfast today the National Party leader said he would "look at anything that is going to enhance our safety".

"We're going to be incredibly constructive. We know that change is required. I'm willing to look at anything that is going to enhance our safety – that's our position," Mr Bridges said.

However, the Opposition leader noted that it’s currently unknown at this stage what the proposed law changes will entail.

"I suppose the issue is I don't know at this stage what it is the Government is proposing. I want to talk to them about it, because I do want to see if we can ensure that this is bipartisan – it's not just a Government, it’s a whole Parliament here that is speaking," he said.

"We need change, and I also understand that I'm up for anything here."
