The four-year review by the Law Commission made nearly 200 recommendations.

A report released today has found the way New Zealand gathers and uses DNA for criminal investigations is severely inadequate.

The four-year review by the Law Commission made nearly 200 recommendations to fix the act that was first created over 20 years ago.

It says the law is not fit for purpose or constitutionally sound, and that is fails to recognise Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

The Government has now been given the report to consider.
