Who do you call when a rain bomb strikes and floods south Auckland? You call the Barnett family from Takanini.

Shelly Barnett, 19, and her three siblings and dad have been "flood hunting" along Ardmore-Alfriston Road and Clevedon-Papakura Road.

It's a family tradition, which they took part in as children, and they captured some astonishing video footage around the Takanini area after last night's deluge.

It's an activity that they get into whenever floods hit their area.

This morning she filmed floodwaters rising up the side of their 4WD vehicle, as they made their way along a rural road.

In the video, you can then hear the Barnetts laughing as the drive through floodwater saying "we are the flood hunters".
