A TVNZ reporter has got a first hand glimpse into what night shift is like for a police officer.
Canterbury Police invited Breakfast reporter Jordan Oppert along for a ride to document on Instagram a night in the life of an officer on the front line in Christchurch.
Oppert accompanied police officer Jeremy Kench. Their first call out was to an address where someone was breaking into a garage, that turned out to be an elderly lady that was hearing noises.
Job number two was a man who ran a red light and was taken back the station after failing a breath alcohol test.
The last job of the night was responding to reports of a man lying in the middle of the road.
