A Wellington taxi driver who was shot with a gun by one of his passengers has opened up to 1 NEWS about his horrifying ordeal, as police release an image of a man they are hunting over the shooting.
Taxi driver Alem Tessema told 1 NEWS how a man and woman ordered him out of his cab after he'd taken them to Miramar, before shooting him in the shoulder on Saturday night.
"The lady jumped out first then he jumped out fast and came next to me, then (makes gun with fingers) get out the car," he said.
"I thought he was joking you know, and the next second, boom," Mr Tessema said.
The taxi driver was shocked something like this happened to him in New Zealand's capital city.
"In Courtenay Place there is thousands of people you're working around, kids, older people you name it, do you expect anyone to have a gun?"
Police have this afternoon released an image of a man wanted for questioning over the shooting.
Police say Dylan Nuku, 26, is believed to be armed and dangerous and should not be approached by members of the public.
They have conducted a number of search warrants but are yet to locate him.
