Watch: Pay rises for teachers, smoking and the NZ Land Wars - Quick questions with Labour’s Louisa Wall and National’s Paul Goldsmith

1 NEWS sat down with the MPs to see their thoughts on a range of issues.

1 NEWS NOW's Anna Whyte sat down with National MP Paul Goldsmith and Labour MP Louisa Wall, to ask questions ranging from their view on the recent move to make the Black Ferns professional players, the upcoming Commonwealth Games, and if they think plain packaging will help decrease smoking.

The segment is part of the  Political Showdown  series, where the MPs ask each other the questions.

Mr Goldsmith and Ms Wall's round will be released on  Facebook  and the 1 NEWS NOW website, which covers police pursuits, bike helmets, cannabis and abortion law reform.

The quick questions asked this week:

Will you be watching the Commonwealth Games ? If so what sport do you follow the closest?

What is the single biggest issue facing New Zealanders that needs to be fixed?

Do you think plain packaging will help decrease smoking

What do you think about the National Party line up?

Do you think the Black Fern 's professional pay package goes far enough?

The primary teacher union is asking for a 16% pay rise over two years, is that fair? Will it encourage more people to go into teaching ?

The New Zealand Land Wars have been commemorated for the first time, should all children be learning this history at school?

What are you doing while parliament is in recess?

If you could choose anyone in the world to go out to lunch with, who would you choose?

What would you be doing if you were not in parliament?
