NASA has released before and after images showing the coastline of the Kaikoura peninsula and how it has been affected by the November 14 quake.
In the images, significant new areas of rock can be seen in the after photo, when it was thrust upwards out of the sea.
The coastline change was even more dramatic in certain other parts of the coast, but the area close to Kaikoura also experienced considerable change.
The uplift left sea life stranded out of water, leading to citizen rescue efforts for paua.
The latest images come days after the European Space Agency released remarkable images showing how the quake jolted the earth near Kaikoura apart.
