Watch: Motorists and sheep caught in wintry blast as unseasonal snow blankets Canterbury

The sheep were unfazed as they braved the elements.

Motorists as well as sheep have been caught in the unseasonal wintry blast which has brought snow to parts of the South Island.

Springfield and Porters Pass in Canterbury have been hit by snowfall today.

Metservice has issued a heavy snow warning for Canterbury High Country and the Kaikoura Ranges.

Thunderstorms with strong gusts of up to 110 km/h have also been forecast for many regions north of Buller.
