October 30, 2018

Parliament TV has captured the moment Parliament was evacuated after a 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck Wellington.

MPs in the house stopped speaking and looked around tentatively as the House shook from the deep quake.

MP Kris Faafoi said on Twitter, "We all felt that here at Parliament. Early indications are that it was 6.2 near Taumamaranui. Shakeout taught us all to drop cover and hold. Check your neighbours and family are OK. Will update soon as we get more information".

According to GeoNet the earthquake was 207km deep 25 km south-west of Taumarunui.
