A Christchurch couple got a surprise while out on a walk this week, when they spotted a giant spider that could be compared to the size of a roll-on deodorant bottle.
Baylee Bensley-Howell saw the spider by the sand dunes in Bottle Lake forest.
Her boyfriend Anaru Mikaere took the video of the spider, seen minding its own business.
Ms Bensley-Howell said she had heard the spider species was harmless, and she estimated it was about four inches in length.
"Welcome to our village wee one," the 37-year-old Prime Minister posted on social media last night after the couple's first baby was born at 4.45pm weighing 3.31kg.
