Watch: 'Like a half-eaten pork chop' - Jacinda Ardern and Rhys Darby in video designed to 'Get NZ on the map'

May 2, 2018

Comedian Rhys Darby and Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern have co-starred in a new tourism video promoting New Zealand by urging amateur map-makers to not forget about our small nation.

As Darby notes in the skit, amateur cartographers often leave New Zealand off of maps for unknown reasons, but Darby puts one theory forward, saying it's because of our irregular shape - "like a half-eaten pork chop".

"Fellow humans, there's a big conspiracy going down! We need to prove that New Zealand is missing from world maps so I can update New Zealand's fearless leader @jacindaardern," he wrote.

In the video, Darby takes swipes at Australia, England and France, who he jokingly accuses of conspiring to remove New Zealand from world consciousness for various reasons.

One Reddit user pointed in the "MapswithoutNZ" section points out that the New Zealand Government website has a 404 error screen with a map missing New Zealand - along with the wry joke "we're sorry, something's missing".

The ad was produced by Tourism New Zealand.
