Hillary Clinton has lavished praise on Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern after the pair met for breakfast in Auckland today.

"I was so pleased she had time and we sat and talked like old friends," Ms Clinton told Seven Sharp's Hillary Barry.

"It was a great conversation. The idea she's a young dynamic Prime Minister about to have her first child ... we had lots to talk about."
