Watch: Hawke's Bay cidery workers beat the heat in novel fashion

January 31, 2019

The boys at Zeffer Cider are making the most of their equipment during the hot spell.

Hawke's Bay cidery workers have found a novel way to beat the heat by cooling off in an old fermentation tank.

Head cider maker for Zeffer Cider Jody Scott showed 1 NEWS the make-shift pool and explained its origin.

"We have had to be a bit imaginative at the end of a long day once everyone is pretty tired and hot, so we've created a little pool for everyone to cool down in and crack into a cold cider.

"We've made use of an old open top fermentation tank that we've filled up with some water and the guys are loving it," he said.

The pool should come in use tomorrow as well, with Hastings forecast to reach a toasty 32C.

A cooler change is expected to bring relief for much of the North Island from Saturday onwards, with the South Island seeing cooler temperatures from tomorrow.
