Watch: What happens next? Corin Dann gives his analysis of the next steps needed to form a government

October 12, 2017

Formal coalition meetings have ended today, with Mr Peters missing his original decision deadline.

Now the official coalition meetings between NZ First, National and Labour are over, 1 NEWS political editor Corin Dann says the focus will turn to Winston Peters' meetings with his party's board and caucus, set to take place in Wellington.

Mr Peters had previously stated one or more of his board members had a funeral to attend, but walked it back when pressed.

It's anyones guess as to when this meeting will take place, however, with Mr Peters growing increasingly vague on a time frame due to the "logistics" of putting the meeting together.

Dann says the NZ First board will need to make a consensus decision on either the National or Labour deal, with Mr Peters set to have plenty of influence over the proceedings.

Tomorrow, Dann says the NZ First caucus will meet to go over the line by line details of both deals before presenting them to the board.

"I think we need to be patient, we're looking at another two to three days before a decision," Dann says.
