Google's latest version of its well-known Earth application is packed with new information and the introduction video even gives a nod to Auckland's famous Mount Eden.
The new Earth launched this week on the Google Chrome browser and Android mobile OS, featuring new guided tours and even videos from producers who worked on BBC's Planet Earth II documentary series.
In New Zealand, Auckland is mapped in full 3D, as is Christchurch, thanks to a process called stereophotogrammetry which is created by photographing multiple angles of an area from the air, then stitching the imagery together.
Wellington is yet to be fully 3D-mapped, but all areas of the globe are rendered with their correct altitude in 3D.
A major feature of the update is the ability of Google Earth to work in a Google Chrome browser with no software download or installation required.
A mobile app is available for Android now, but there is no app available yet for Apple devices.
