The wrath of this week's storm which savaged the Coromandel coastline has been revealed in incredible drone footage.
The region is preparing for another hit, with current slips caused by flooding expected to take a month to clear.
Coromandel clean up predicted to take a month while upper North Island braces for looming heavy rain
The next dose of heavy rainfall is expected tonight around 9pm but is not likely to exceed Tuesday's volume.
"The grounds are sodden, all the slips that came down are all very loose," Coromandel Civil Defence controller Garry Towler told TVNZ's Breakfast today.
"There will be a bit of damage, but we're just as prepared as we can be."
"It's probably going to take a month," (to clear the slips), he said.
MetService and Civil Defence are warning those at the top of the North Island that more heavy rain is coming - and it could be worse than we've already had.
Georgina Griffiths of MetService said today has been a welcome reprieve, but people should not be lulled into a false sense of security.
"While we've had a good, dry reprieve today, the weather on Friday night and Saturday morning is forecast to be comparable to, or worse, than Tuesday," she said.
