The father of missing English tourist Grace Millane has made an emotional plea to the New Zealand public to help find his young daughter after arriving in the country today, as police say they're conducting a scene examination at an Auckland hotel where she was last seen.

Grace, 22, was last seen on Saturday on Queen St in Auckland's CBD.

She failed to check in with family, which is very out of character for her, they say, and a large-scale search for her is now underway.

Speaking at a press conference flanked by police today, her father David Millane spoke out in the hopes someone with information, or his daughter, would come forward.

"As you know Grace has been missing for several days, we last had contact with her on Saturday as a family we have extreme concerns for her welfare

"She is usually in daily contact with us, Grace is on a year-long world travel experience which started in Peru," Mr Millane said.

Detective Scott Beard also gave an update on the case.

"We reviewed hours of CCTV footage, the last known sighting of Grace was at 9.41pm Saturday 1st December at Auckland's City Life Hotel with a male companion," Mr Beard said.

Police have identified the man and he has been spoken to as a "person of interest".

Police are at an apartment in the City Life Hotel Queen St conducting a scene examination.

They have not yet confirmed whether Grace left the City Life Hotel and this is part of the ongoing investigation, police say.

Police this morning said a team of 25 officers have been assigned to the case and they continue to scour through CCTV footage from around Auckland.
