It's believed the former US President is heading to the airport to fly to Australia.

Former US President Barack Obama has left Auckland's exclusive Sofitel Hotel after spending two full days in New Zealand after arriving on Tuesday night.

His motorcade was filmed ...

Mr Obama spent last night speaking at an exclusive dinner with MPs and well-known New Zealanders such as health advocate Dr Lance O'Sullivan and director Sir Peter Jackson.

Mr Obama was interviewed by Sam Neill before a select crowd at Viaduct Events Centre last night.

Westpac’s Simon Power and Pacific youth leader Bhavna Lata were also there.

Today Mr Obama will today meet with Wahine Toa, a group of Maori women leaders.

His trip has been a whirlwind tour of luxury golf courses and a stirring Maori welcome.

Recounting the night of TVNZ1's Breakfast Mr Power described Mr Obama as "impressive" and said he "held the audience in the palm of his hand".

Today, police can be seen around the Sofitel Hotel, and at one point about six officers walked into the building.

The Prime Minister revealed that parenthood was one of several things she discussed with the former US President.

Mr Obama also met PM Jacinda Ardern, where they spoke about the future of politics, particularly progressive politics, and pressing issues like climate change.
