Watch: Auckland children sing haunting waiata at Eden Park Christchurch terrorist attacks remembrance service

March 29, 2019

The service took place at Eden Park.

A group of Auckland schoolchildren have performed a haunting waiata at Auckland's remembrance service for the victims of the Christchurch terrorist attacks.

The Ngāti Whātua waiata was sung by students from Kowhai Intermediate at the Eden Park event this afternoon, shortly after a Muslim prayer service had taken place.

Kiwi musician Dave Dobbyn is also due to perform his iconic hit Welcome Home at the service.

Thousands stood and clapped for the Prime Minister after she delivered an impassioned speech.

All Blacks and Blues player Sonny Bill Williams is scheduled to take to the stage as well.

The star travelled to New Zealand to perform for the victims of the March 15 terrorist attack.

The event follows a large National Remembrance Service at Christchurch's Hagley Park this morning that saw a performance from Cat Stevens and a speech given by Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.
