Waitakere Ranges vegetation fire covers 100 metres before it's put out

Firefighters have managed to extinguish a vegetation fire that stretched for 100 metres in the Waitakere Ranges west of Auckland tonight.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand were call shortly before 7.30pm to the fire near Karekare.

Crews from Karekare and Piha attended and a helicopter was also dispatched to help fight the fire.

A spokesperson told 1 NEWS the fire was 100 metres long and 20 metres wide at its height but it did not affect any properties and there were no injuries.

It was put out by about 10pm and crews left the scene.
