Views sought over how much water can be taken from Takaka catchment

Tasman District Council is keen to hear what locals think should be allowed at one of Golden Bay's biggest tourist drawcards - the crystal-clear Te Waikoropupu springs.

Last month local iwi Ngati Tama sought a judicial review of the extension of a company's consent to bottle water there for commercial use.

Tasman District Council admits there are few protections for the springs, and says there should be more, and it wants to hear the community's take on what should be done with the water.

Years ago, locals and tourists could come here and swim, but now swimming is not allowed.
