Fields are lakes, creeks are rivers and towns are like small islands, if new aerial vision of a flooded Whakatane District, and Edgecumbe, are anything to go by.
But, relief is in sight for those 1600 Edgecumbe residents evacuated from the town.
The Rangitaiki River is now receding, after peaking at 6.6m yesterday at 2.30pm.
Residents will know around 12pm today when they can return to their homes in Edgecumbe.
