Video: Kiwi hairdressing pair go platinum with top accolade at 'Olympics' of hairdressing, label it 'mind-blowing'

The hairdressers from Dunedin and Auckland competed in the ‘Olympics’ of hairdressing awards in London.

Two Kiwi hairdressers have taken home the top gongs from the "Olympics" of hairdressing awards in London.

Kylie Hayes from Dunedin's Moha Hairdressing and Mana Dave from Auckland's Blaze Hair salon won platinum awards at the Wella International Trendvision hair competition in October.

Kylie won the Platinum Ward for Creative Vision while Mana won the Platinum Award for Colour after competing for the top accolade against 83 finalists from across the world.

Both were the first Australasians to win the awards.

"Being one of the first Australasians to win this award is mind-blowing," says Mana.

Claiming the award was 10 years in the making for both hairdressers.

For Kylie who represented New Zealand three times at the event, the moment her name was called was one she'd be waiting for.

"It's finally the moment I've been recognised as the international platinum winner," says Kylie.

The mother of three says coming back home has been really "exciting" with the amount of support the local community has given her.

"People are like, 'Can I get a photo with you?' I'm just Kylie. I just come from Dunedin New Zealand."

Mana says the award is about showing what Kiwis can do on the international stage.

"For young budding Kiwi stylists it really says to them that just because you're all the way down here in New Zealand that you can still be more than that.

"You have the ability to really shine your unique flavour on an international stage."
