Video: Car bursts into flames after crash near Auckland Harbour Bridge

A car has burst into flames following a crash near the Auckland Harbour Bridge, bringing motorway traffic to a temporary standstill.

Police were called at 7.20pm after two cars collided, causing one to catch fire. Fire and Emergency attended the fire, in Northcote Point on Auckland’s North Shore.

State Highway 1 between Onewa Road and Shelly Beach Road was initially closed, according to the New Zealand Transport Agency. But lanes have since been cleared and traffic is now flowing again.

Both drivers were uninjured in the crash, authorities said.

“I’ve never seen it this bad,” a witness said earlier of the standstill traffic over the Auckland Harbour Bridge. “Cars look to be backed up for over a kilometre.”
