A Wellington art collector whose apartment was turned upside down by today's earthquake is amazed many of his precious artworks survived the shaking.
Professor Jack Richards and his partner Won Gyu Moon were at home in their apartment at Wellington's new One Market Lane block when the magnitude 7.5 earthquake struck.
Most of the contents of the apartment were thrown to the ground in the shaking, but remarkably, Professor Richards said much of his precious collection survived.
"I don't know how it survived falling without being damaged," he said, referring to piece by glass artist Ann Robinson.
The couple spent a restless night on a friend's couch before returning to assess the damage.
