The National Party leader said people like Waikato's Affco Horotiu meat workers wouldn't like Labour's tertiary education policy.

Today, Ms Ardern said, "No, no, I think that's a bit of an assumption."

"Actually our policy is as much for them, for their families, but also, if they haven't had a chance to study before, if they ever want the opportunity to retain, it's about them too."

Last night, Mr English said businesses "don't run on vague education promises and very expensive tertiary policies", after Ms Ardern said the meat worker in Horotiu that Mr English mentioned, "deserves access to free education as much as a school leaver".
