Hundreds have attended the opening ceremony of a new university campus in the centre of Tauranga.
This afternoon, the University of Waikato opened its $55 million building.
Dignatries included representatives from both the Tauranga City Council and the Bay of Plenty Regional Council.
Former Prime Minister Jim Bolger was also there, and cut the ribbon to open the new campus.
Mayor Greg Brownless spoke of the importance of universities, saying that they "are crucial worlds where knowledge is created".
There are currently more than 900 students enrolled, with numbers expected to swell following the opening of the new campus.
