The name of a two-year-old girl whose body was found in mud flats near Tauranga last week has been released.

Police say she was Nevaeh Jahkaya Whatukura Ager.

A homicide investigation is now underway into her death with 14 investigators working on the case.

Seven members of the National Police Dive squad completed an examination of the Little Waihi estuary in Maketu yesterday where her body was found.

Police are talking to all persons who were in the Little Waihi area between Monday March  18 and Friday March 22.
