Two teens charged over Auckland crime spree that included aggravated burglaries, driving on wrong side of motorway, crashing into police car

A crime spree hit Auckland overnight in which people from two vehicles committed three aggravated burglaries, drove on the wrong side of the motorway and collided with a police car.

The burglaries occurred at service stations in Ormiston, Te Atatu and near Auckland Airport, between midnight and 3am.

Following the attacks, one of the vehicles involved was spotted by a patrol vehicle in Western Springs and monitored overhead by the police Eagle Helicopter.

The vehicle was observed driving on the wrong side of the motorway on several occasions.

The vehicle collided with a police patrol vehicle as it exited the Rimu Rd on-ramp in Mangere.

The offenders fled from the vehicle but were subsequently captured by Police.

A 21-year-old male will appear in the Manukau District Court today while a 14-year-old female and a 16-year-old male are appearing in Manukau Youth Court.

One of the suspects injured his ankle while fleeing on-foot from police and is receiving medical treatment.

An officer in the police car that was hit also received whiplash and was medically assessed as a precaution.
