Search and rescue crews have lifted two people off a mountain north of Glenorchy after an avalanche.

The avalanche occurred at Mt Earnslaw at about 8am.

Emergency services were called to the scene just before 8 this morning.
Police say two people were caught up in the avalanche at Mt Earnslaw.
St John told 1 NEWS one person has moderate injuries and the other has minor injuries.
Both were flown to Lakes District Hospital by helicopter.
