Two injured, one critically, after major rock slip at Hawke's Bay beach

Two people have been injured after being involved in a slip at a beach south of Clifton in Hawke's Bay.

A Hawke's Bay District Health Board spokesperson told 1 NEWS a man in his 20s is in a stable condition and a women in her 20s is in a critical condition in intensive care.

Police say a large amount of earth and rock fell onto the beach at Cape Kidnappers, near Hastings beach, at about 2.30pm today.

According to Radio NZ, the two people injured were walkers who were swept into the sea by the massive landslide.

Two air ambulances were sent to the scene. Both people have since been transported to hospital.
