September 6, 2018

Two formal complaints have been received by police over alleged bullying by the force's Deputy Commissioner Wally Haumaha.

Deputy Commissioner (relieving) Andrew Coster confirmed in a statement two formal complaints had been received "in relation to bullying allegations against deputy commissioner Wally Haumaha".

"These have been notified to the Independent Police Conduct Authority (IPCA) in accordance with the usual process for complaints.

"The IPCA is assessing these matters and will communicate about next steps in due course."

IPCA General Manager Warren Young told 1 NEWS they had been "notified of the complaints and will be independently investigating them".

Police Minister Stuart Nash confirmed he has been made aware of a formal complaint recently made against Mr Haumaha.

He said it had nothing to do with him at this point.

"Let the inquiry take its course and let's see what comes out of it."

There is currently an inquiry underway into the processes of the appointment of Wally Haumaha as deputy police commissioner.
