Two-day nationwide junior doctors strike starts today

February 12, 2019

Nearly 3000 junior doctors walked off the job this morning for the second time in four months.

Junior doctors will walk off the job for a third time this year today as they protest proposed roster changes.

Around 3,500 members of the New Zealand Resident Doctors Association are striking at 8am and continuing it the next two days.

The only region not affected by the strike will be Nelson, where young doctors say they recognise the emergency situation happening in the area due to the ongoing battle with fires.

DHB's and doctors have spent time trying to resolve issues over the last week with more mediation planned for Friday as well.

DHBss have also said they believe they have the strike under control with any patients expecting surgery who have been affected by the strike already contacted.

Notice has also been issued for a fourth strike.
