A 55-year-old Twizel man has been found dead in Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park.

The man was reported overdue from a run on Saturday, sparking a search and rescue operation.

His body was found on the Ball Pass Crossing track by members of the public yesterday morning.

Initial investigations indicate the man may have slipped while running the track.

The death is being referred to the coroner.
