Traffic now flowing after 'child's playhouse' temporarily blocks lanes of Auckland's Northern Motorway

October 11, 2017

Motorists were facing delays on Auckland's Northern Motorway after what appears to be a 'child's playhouse' came loose from a vehicle, blocking northbound lanes.

The NZ Transport Agency made a Facebook post just before 3pm alerting motorists to the issue:

"The Northern motorway's left northbound lane is currently blocked after Greville Rd following a loose shed/playhouse being deposited onto the motorway.

"Emergency services have already cleared the two right lanes however congestion has built up from Sunnynook to Greville Rd. Avoid this route or allow extra time."

Video of the incident posted by NZTA shows what looks to be a large child's playhouse lying on its side obstructing the right most northbound lane of the Northern Motorway.

The footage also shows long lines of traffic forming behind the stricken structure.

It's not yet clear what kind of vehicle was transporting the playhouse or how it came loose.

The NZTA has since posted that the obstruction after Greville Rd has been cleared, the traffic map now shows traffic flowing as usual during the rush hour period.
