January 31, 2019

Attempts to revive the child were unsuccessful.

Police have released the name of the three-year-old boy who drowned in the Gore oxidation ponds this week.

He was Lachlan Jones.

Searchers found him unresponsive in a pond at about 11.15pm on Tuesday night after Gore police were alerted to a missing child earlier that night. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.

Police say they offer their sympathies to the friends and family of Lachlan.

The death has been referred to the Coroner.

Gore District Council which owns the oxidation ponds said on Wednesday an urgent review would be carried out of fencing and security around the ponds.

Two large oxidation ponds in south Gore are fenced off with a padlocked gate at the entrance, the council said.
