A police chase in Auckland has resulted in a serious single-vehicle crash - the second one in New Zealand today.
Officers initiated the most recent pursuit in Huapai just before midday, after receiving "reports of erratic driving from concerned members of the public," police said in a statement.
All three occupants of the stolen vehicle were injured in the crash, which occurred at Trigg and Foster roads, but they survived.
It comes less than 10 hours after a crash in Christchurch overnight in which the driver and a passenger died, and a second passenger was taken to hospital.
That crash, also involving a single vehicle, occurred less than a minute after police made the call to call off "the extremely short pursuit", Canterbury Metro Commander Superintendent Lane Todd told media during a press conference today.
He commended the officers for making the call to end the pursuit, even though it ended in tragedy anyway.
Serious Crash Units remain at both accident scenes. Foster Road in northwest Auckland remains partially closed as police investigate the most recent incident.
