Three people have died following a two-car crash in Canterbury this morning.
Emergency services and a helicopter were called to the scene at the intersection of Mitcham and Hepburns roads, north of Ashburton, just after 10am, a St John spokesperson told 1 NEWS.
The roads around the crash site have been closed while emergency services work on the scene.
Motorists have been advised to avoid the area and take alternative routes where possible.
It comes after five people were killed after crashing into a tree near Taupō this morning.
Five others were killed in separate crashes over the weekend.
