The pursuit started on Tram Road in Ohoka and ended on Rangiora Woodend Road.

Officers had to use road spikes to stop the stolen vehicle at about 11pm and apprehended the three suspects as they tried to run away.

The stolen vehicle then caught fire and the Fire Service were called to extinguish the blaze.

Two men, aged 32 and 24 years, and a 32-year-old woman are expected to appear in court today after spending the night in custody.

They are facing a raft of charges including unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, reckless driving and failing to stop for police.

It was the second police pursuit in the area yesterday.

A 23-year-old man will appear in the Christchurch District Court this morning after fleeing police in Amberley yesterday morning.

He is facing charges of burglary, unlawful taking, being unlawfully on property, aggravated failing to stop, driving while forbidden and a number of other charges.
