Christchurch has heard a message of unity and as thousands turn out for the March for Love event.
The event began at North Hagley Park 10am today in memory of the 50 victims of the mosque shootings.
About 5000 people sat on the grass in front of a large stage.
They heard from a group of young people who organised the march, and their wish to show how resilient the city was.
A number of people of different faiths offered prayers and said while they were from different religions they were brothers and sisters in humanity.
Mayor Lianne Delziel told the crowd the city would not be divided by hate, and would stand together in unity.
The crowd then marched a short distance to the wall of flowers left by people to honour the dead outside the botanic gardens.
