Thousands turn out to fish Canterbury's Lake Coleridge as season opens

November 6, 2017

Nearly a thousand keen anglers showed up to fish at North Canterbury's most popular fishing lake at the weekend - Lake Coleridge.

The backcountry fishing season officially opened at the weekend, with brisk northwesterly winds not deterring those looking to claim a catch.

Fish and Game were present and checked on about 450 anglers, but said they didn't find any problems.

Fish species in the 47 square kilometre lake include brown trout, rainbow trout and chinook salmon.
