Thousands of people turn out to Christchurch's 155th annual show day

November 17, 2017

The event is the largest community event in New Zealand.

Cantabrians are today enjoying a day off as they celebrate the region's anniversary.

And one popular destination which is drawing many of the region's occupants during their public holiday is Christchurch's 155th annual show day.

The A&P show is expected to draw 100,000 people over the three days of the event, which ends today.

Event organiser Geoff Bone said it's been a "hectic" three days.

"We've had beautiful weather, amazing crowds, amazing competitions, young auctioneers, New Zealand championship, mint lamb competitions, a huge fine wool auction with more than $6 million worth of wool," Mr Bone said.

"And today is townies day, this place is full of kids, they're playing on the ferris wheels, they're watching the New Zealand army band.

"It's so exciting to see so many happy, smiling faces, and we're still going to roll for another five hours, we're here till 5.30 so it's cool, there's a lot to go. There's a lot happening."
