'A terrible crisis' – NZ poised to help Indonesia after deadly earthquake and tsunami

Over 800 people have been killed after an earthquake and tsunami hit Sulawesi, Indonesia.

Winston Peters says New Zealand will offer assistance to Indonesia after a deadly earthquake and tsunami hit the island of Sulawesi. 

The Foreign Minister will be leaving for Indonesia and Thailand today, and said he was waiting on the Indonesian Government to make a decision on what help it needs.

"We're a responsible neighbour in that context," Mr Peters told TVNZ1's Q+A.

More than 800 people have been killed after an earthquake and tsunami hit Sulawesi, Indonesia. 

"The reality is they are dealing with a terrible crisis and I think the numbers (death toll) will pass a thousand very quickly and then go possibly much much worse," Mr Peters said.
