Temperature to soar past 30 degrees in central North Island - but it's rain for some in the south

TVNZ 1's Breakfast weather presenter Matty McLean looks at what you can expect weather-wise today, and for the rest of the week.

There is plenty of sun and warm weather across New Zealand today, although there could be some rain in the south.

TVNZ 1 Breakfast weather presenter Matty McLean said the temperature in Taumaranui in the central North Island will hit 31, while Levin, Whanganui, Hawke's Bay and Masterton will all reach the high 20s.

The sun will shine in Hamilton, Coromandel and Auckland, while there could be cloud cover in Northland.

There could be early showers on the West Coast before it clears, while rain is possible in Dunedin, Queenstown and Alexandra.
