Teenager stabbed during Bay of Plenty assault

Police are appealing for information after a stabbing in the coastal Bay of Plenty town of Opotiki in the early hours of Sunday morning.

An 18-year-old man suffered stab wounds to his upper body after being assaulted on Elliott Street. 

He was taken to Whakatane Hospital and is in a stable condition.

Detective Sergeant Darren Thomas of the Eastern Bay of Plenty Police urged anyone who may have knowledge of the incident or those involved to come forward.

“Police are grateful to those members of the local community who have already provided valuable information, allowing the investigation to progress,” Detective Sergeant Thomas said.
