"Te Reo Maori is our language - it's New Zealand's language ... its something for everyone" Mr Apanui said.

"The more people that speak your language the more mana it has."

Mr Apanui said he believes there is a growing positive attitude towards te reo, with more non-Maori opting to learn it than ever before.

He said he thinks the language will continue to prosper among all New Zealanders, with only a minority of Kiwis not speaking it in 100 years' time.
