Te Papa could host China's famous terracotta army in 2018

November 21, 2017

Wellington's Te Papa Museum could be hosting some of China's ancient terracotta army for an exhibition late next year.

The China's Terracotta Armies exhibition is expected to run from December 2018 to April 2019 at a cost of around $4 million.

Most of this cost will be for the transportation of the warriors, which are over 2000 years old.

The army was created for the tomb of Qin Shi Huang, China's first emperor.

Te Papa head of partnerships and development Wladimir Ramsteij told Stuff he expects the exhibition to be attended by over 100,000 visitors and have an economic impact of around $41 million.

A contract for the exhibition has not been signed yet, however.
