Te Kuiti triple fatal takes life of locals in their twenties

A boss at the Te Kuiti lime quarry, near the place three people were killed following a truck and car crash today, has confirmed the truck involved was going into the quarry.

Three people have been killed after the vehicles crashed outside the Oparure Lime Quarry in Te Kuiti, King Country.

Firefighters were called to the crash at 12.52pm.

The crash took place on Oparure Road.

Police say the three people killed were in the car - two men and a woman who were all in their twenties.

One of the men was from Otorohanga while the others were local to Te Kuiti.

The truck driver was not injured.

John Reeves, the general manager for Graymont Oparure Quarry, said no quarry employers were involved in the crash.

"All staff members have been accounted for," he said.

"The quarry is in a state of shock and we feel for the families." 

Mr Reeves said he had hardly any information about the crash.

"We don't know if they're from around here or who they are," he said about the three people killed in the crash.
