Super Saturday Vaxathon to kick off around the country

The event is being held in an attempt to further boost the vaccination rate against Covid-19.

The Super Saturday Vaxathon will kick off around the country from Midday to encourage Kiwis to roll up their sleeves and get vaccinated against Covid-19.

The event, running from 12pm to 7pm, will be televised by major media outlets, including on TVNZ 2 and at 1News.co.nz. 

Studio-based anchors will include Māori Television's Julian Wilcox, Newshub's Patrick Gower, actor Sonny Ngatai, Re:'s Anna Harcourt, netball star Maia Wilson and Sky Sport's Narelle Sindos.

They'll be crossing live to Te Karere's Harata Brown in Kaitaia and Rapaera Tawhai in the Bay of Plenty, who’ll be joined by sailing expert Jesse Tuke and rugby sevens player Michaela Blyde.

Stars from across a range of TVNZ shows will also make an appearance, including Celebrity Treasure Island's Jess Tyson; Wellington Paranormal's Karen O’Leary in Avalon, Wellington; The Casketeers' Francis and Kaiora Tipene in Porirura; and Jason Gunn and the What Now crew from Christchurch.

The event is being held in an attempt to further boost the vaccination rate against Covid-19.

There will also be performances from musicians and zoom crosses with celebrities, including Taika Waititi and the All Blacks, as well as pre-recorded messages from well-known New Zealanders.
